Trae Young has never been one to shy away from a challenge. Since entering the NBA, he has played like he has a chip on his shoulder, proving all the doubters and haters wrong game in and game out.

Amid his quest for greatness, though, he has burned some bridges.

In New York, most notably, fans have grown especially hateful towards him and it all stems from the 2021 playoffs.

In the first round, Youg led the Hawks to a series victory over the Knicks that involved a whole lot of shots being taken from both sides.

“I’m just trying to keep it to basketball,” Young said after the game (via CBS Sports). “I don’t care if they’re in their feelings or who’s mad or who’s not. It’s basketball at the end of the day and we’re just trying to win. All of the extra stuff, it is what it is. We’re locked in. We’re focused on us and trying to win a game.”

It was a pretty messy affair, but also highly entertaining to behold and it’s not over yet.

For Christmas Day, the league decided to treat fans by pitting Trae against the Knickerbockers once again. Unfortunately, Young was not able to play due to the mess surrounding COVID-19 — but the fans still made sure to make their feelings on the star point guard known.

In the 101-87 win, “F**k Trae Young” chants spread throughout the arena, and Young himself responded to it in an afternoon tweet.

Here’s what it says:

This ongoing saga between Trae and the city of New York is highly entertaining and could be the start of an exciting new rivalry.

Whatever the case, Trae has shown he’s not afraid to bite back when he’s messed with. Hopefully, Knicks fans might figure out soon that it’s not a good idea to piss the guy off.
