Trevor Ariza Has Become The Most Traded Player In NBA History After Move To Oklahoma City

3 Min Read

Trevor Ariza is breaking records in the NBA right now and not exactly the type that makes you proud. The now Oklahoma City Thunder swingman has had a very moving career, playing in different teams and not staying longer than three years in any of them. The 35-year-old veteran was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder this week, the 10th time he’s been shipped in his career.

That makes Ariza the most traded player in NBA history. Last season, he played for the Portland Trail Blazers; he opted out to join the team in the bubble. This offseason wasn’t as quiet as his time home, as Ariza was part of four NBA teams in four days. On Wednesday, he was sent to the Houston Rockets; on Thursday, he was on his way to Detroit before finally land in Oklahoma City on Friday, as part of the deal that sent Justin Jackson to Oklahoma City, James Johnson to the Mavericks and Delon Wright to the Pistons.

Redditor “StudioSixtyFour” named all the times that Ariza was traded around the league.

1. February 2006, Ariza traded to the Orlando Magic.

2. November 2007, Ariza traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

3. August 2010, Ariza traded to the New Orleans Hornets.

4. June 2012, Ariza traded to the Washington Wizards.

5. July 2014, Ariza traded to the Houston Rockets.

6. December 2018, Ariza traded to the Washington Wizards.

7. January 2020, Ariza traded to the Portland Trail Blazers.

8. November 2020, Ariza traded to the Houston Rockets.

9. November 2020, Ariza traded to the Detroit Pistons.

10. November 2020, Ariza traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

What a journey this has been for Ariza; he has played for nine teams during his career (Knicks, Magic, Lakers, Rockets, Hornets, Wizards, Suns, Kings and Trail Blazers), only topped by Ish Smith (11 teams) and Anthony Tolliver (10) as the active players with most teams. It’s unclear if he will stay with the Thunder, knowing that they are in full rebuilding mode right now. Perhaps Ariza will keep adding teams to his already impressive collection, as well as the number of times he’s been traded.
