Tristan Thompson is currently a solid role player for the Sacramento Kings. He is averaging 5.5 PPG and 5.6 RPG, which are generally viewed as good role player numbers.

However, it seems as though Tristan Thompson may be retiring at the end of the season amidst a paternity suit from Maralee Nichols, his personal trainer. The news was reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post.

As Page Six first reported Friday, Thompson’s personal trainer Maralee Nichols is suing the Sacramento Kings player for child support, with the baby reportedly due this week. Thompson’s attorneys did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

According to the text messages detailed in the suit, Thompson said that he “won’t be involved at all” and that Nichols would ultimately receive little money because he planned to retire from the NBA.

“Btw if you think having this baby is gonna make you some money. It’s completely wrong,” Thompson allegedly wrote. “You are aware that I’m retiring after this season. So in terms of support it will be whatever is required monthly for someone who’s unemployed. It’s Texas so it will be only a couple hundred dollars.

“So you better off taking this 75k I’m offering cause you won’t get nothing near that with having a kid with a father who’s unemployed. All you will have is a baby with a father who has zero involvement with the child and a few hundred dollars of child support a month.”

There is no doubt that this is a complicated situation. As of right now, it’s unclear what Thompson’s next steps are after these text messages have gone public. If these messages are correct, he wants to pay $75K to settle the situation.

Hopefully, we see this get resolved sooner rather than later. Tristan Thompson has been caught up in cheating allegations before, and we’ll see how this specific lawsuit goes in the future.
