The Chicago Bulls have become a competitive team this season after several years of struggling, trying to make some noise in the Eastern Conference. They made three crucial additions in the offseason, landing Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan.

The former Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs player joined the Bulls surrounded by doubts, but he’s proven to be at the best level, taking his team to the top of the standings, even when the other stars have been sidelined.

DeMar is part of the MVP conversation right now, earning praise from his peers, who knows he’s balling this season. Recently, Kevin Durant lauded him on Twitter for playing the game the right way. Moreover, DeRozan’s new teammate also gave him some flowers, naming him the MVP of the season.

Talking with Julia Poe of The Chicago Tribune, Tristan Thompson heaped big praise for DeRozan, admitting that leading the team without Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball or Alex Caruso on the court hasn’t been an easy task, and he’s showed up for his team.

“He’s the league MVP in my eyes,” Thompson told. “Flat out. What he’s able to be doing with Zach out and with Zo and AC out … for him to be able to just hold the fort down and keep that ship right, that’s what an MVP does.”

DeMar was about to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, but they decided to go for Russell Westbrook in the offseason. Many people believe that move would have made the Lakers instant contenders for the championship, but they missed out on a big opportunity.

On the other hand, the Bulls knew this veteran would bring many things to the table and create a terrific duo with Zach LaVine. Chicago now holds a 38-21 record, tied with the Miami Heat for the top spot of the conference. DeRozan was deemed the worst addition of the offseason and he’s played like anything but that. He is still a star in this league and everybody knows that.
