  • Tyrese Maxey says the 76ers will still try to win the championship next season
  • Maxey noted that will be the case since Joel Embiid is on the team
  • The guard is likely to get an increased role if Harden leaves

There is no doubt that the James Harden trade saga has dragged on throughout this entire summer, and there seems to be no resolution in sight. The Philadelphia 76ers don’t look as though they’ll part with James Harden for anything less than a premium package, and thus the standoff will continue.

Young star Tyrese Maxey recently got real on the Philadephia 76ers’ chances if James Harden gets moved. He noted that since the team has Joel Embiid, they will still try to compete for the championship, but noted that the journey will be a lot more difficult.

“I think with the position that the Sixers are in we can’t ever see a season as ‘a wash.’ We have talent. We have the reigning MVP on our team. We have to go out there and expect to win. Expect to still try to complete our goal. It’ll definitely be even more difficult now that one of our best players has decided as of right now he doesn’t want to come back and play. That’s how life goes.” (5:00)

If James Harden were to get traded, it is quite possible that Tyrese Maxey would get an increased role. He is a lightning-quick guard with elite shooting ability, and it would be interesting to see him as one of the main ballhandlers on the Philadelphia 76ers. Thus, he would have to step up for the 76ers to win games, and become a leader for the franchise.

This past season, Tyrese Maxey had a fantastic season, averaging 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 43.4% from the 3PT range. There’s no doubt that Maxey is a highly efficient player, and if James Harden were to leave, that would open up a huge opportunity for him.

Tyrese Maxey Could Truly Blossom Under Coach Nick Nurse

Nick Nurse is a championship-winning coach, and there’s no doubt that he is one of the most creative head coaches in the NBA. Tyrese Maxey previously shared his excitement about being coached by Nurse, and perhaps the guard could blossom under a new coaching regime.

There is no doubt that many are high on the sort of player that Tyrese Maxey could become. He is clearly a very talented player, and we’ll see whether he can become a star in the future.
