- Markquis Nowell went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft
- Nowell signed with the Toronto Raptors on a two-way deal
- Nowell believes he’ll win multiple titles and Finals MVPs
Undrafted Toronto Raptors rookie Markquis Nowell sees multiple NBA championships and Finals MVPs in his future. The supremely confident young guard who has been assigned to Raptors 905, their G League affiliate, took to Instagram to make that bold claim about what’s to come in his NBA career.
“I am so happy and grateful now that I will win multiple NBA championships and Finals MVPs.”

You like that confidence and when you’re trying to make it to the NBA while being 5’8″, you need a lot of it. There would have been a lot of times during his life when Nowell would have been written off as being too short to get to the NBA, and it’s that self-belief that helps one get through all of that.
Nowell is now just a step away from playing in the NBA, and depending on how well plays in the G League, he could feature sooner rather than later. He played fairly well in the Summer League, averaging 12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in his four outings.
Nowell can certainly play and while he may end up winning championships at some point, it’s hard to see a scenario where the former Kansas State Wildcat would win Finals MVP. If it does happen, it’d be one of the greatest stories in sports history.
Nowell Believes He Will Be The Best Player In Raptors History
This is far from being the first time that he has made a very bold claim, as last month, Nowell said he would be the best player in Raptors franchise history. The Raptors don’t have a storied history, but they’ve had some fine players like Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Vince Carter, and Kawhi Leonard.
Having a greater impact on the franchise than any of those four would be no easy task, but the 23-year-old is confident he’d surpass all of them. Some undrafted players have gone on to have great success with the Raptors, notably Fred VanVleet, and hopefully, one day we’ll be able to add Nowell’s name to that list.
The Raptors Look To Have A Bounce-Back Season
The Raptors were supposed to take some big strides in the 2022-23 season, but they ended up going backward. After winning 48 games in the 2021-22 season, they only managed to go 41-41 last time out.
They lost to the Chicago Bulls in their first play-in game to miss the playoffs, which was a major disappointment. There had been murmurs for a while regarding a potential rebuild, but the Raptors aren’t going in that direction, despite VanVleet’s departure.
They have brought in a capable replacement, with Dennis Schroder signing a two-year, $26 million deal with the Raptors. If things don’t work out this season, though, then you’d think they might just tear it all down.
