The 2022-23 NBA season has plenty going on in terms of narrative as teams get ready for the playoffs. The All-Star Weekend and trade deadline are both behind us, and the only thing left now is for teams at the top to fight for the biggest prize, an NBA championship. But the race at the bottom of the league arguably has just as big of a prize this season, with Victor Wembanyama set to come into the league next season.

Victor Wembanyama looks like a generational talent. Surely, there isn’t a team in the NBA that wouldn’t love to draft him. He is so hyped that Adam Silver had to ask teams not to tank ahead of the season. Still, some teams weren’t going to be very good this season anyway, and are aiming to get the first pick to draft him, names like the San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, and Houston Rockets. Speaking to ESPN, though, Wembanyama has made it clear that he doesn’t care who drafts him.

“There is no wrong team. I am not worried; there is no bad organization. I never tell myself I don’t like to go there.”

This is a great outlook for Wembanyama to have; he will likely get drafted to a team that’s not doing well. And considering that he is 7’5″ and a unicorn, the likes of which has rarely been seen before, he has the confidence that he’ll be able to succeed wherever he goes. It’ll be incredibly interesting to see where he eventually lands.

Where Would Victor Wembanyama Thrive The Most?

The Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Detroit Pistons are vying for the worst record in the league. The Pistons have drafted high a fair bit recently and have a lot of young talents like Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey that could fit his timeline. As per the latest NBA mock draft, that’s where he ends up, too. It would certainly make the Pistons incredibly exciting again.

The Rockets have been linked with a potential reunion with James Harden, who will be a free agent. And they, too, have some fun young pieces to put around Wembanyama and Harden if they can get them. The San Antonio Spurs are the most successful organization in the mix, and getting Wembanyama would set them up to enjoy another era of success once more. There is no wrong choice here.
