Warriors Owner Joe Lacob Says Kevin Durant’s Decision To Leave Golden State ‘Made No Sense’

After three straight trips to the Finals, a pair Championship wins, and two Finals MVPs, Kevin Durant decided to walk away from the Warriors this summer to sign with Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets.

For anybody that knows Durant, they know to expect the unexpected. He was the one who left his original franchise to join a 73 win team. He is the one who consistently uses burner accounts to battle with fans on Twitter.

Still, Durant seemed happy in Golden State and his decision to leave the superteam after just four years doesn’t make a lot of sense. In a recent interview with 95.7 The Game, Warriors owner Joe Lacob expressed similar confusion on the matter.

“And by the way, I don’t get mad, the other side of the coin, I can’t get mad when Kevin Durant, who I felt pretty close with, decides he’s going to leave,” Lacob said. “Which, to me, made no sense. Like, you’re the best organization, I hope he thinks, in the world… Winning. Other great players. The new Arena. To me, there was like every reason in the world to stay, but I’m not going to be mad at him because it’s his life. And he earned the right and for whatever reason, he decided he wanted to leave. I can’t control that. I tried.”

The Warriors were preparing for a major move last season to the new and impressive Chase center in San Francisco. Put that alongside their star-studded roster, respectable front-office, and worldwide media coverage, and there really isn’t much more you can ask from a team.

The Dubs certainly did everything right. It just wasn’t enough for Durant, who obviously wanted a fresh start.
