Stephen Curry was set to play his second game with the Warriors after losing 58 matches due to a broken hand. The Warriors were taking the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night, but he point guard did not suit up for the Dubs.

Curry was diagnosed with the flu before Saturday’s game, which led to his absence against the Sixers. Having the flu right now is something that makes people panic right now, given the recent outbreak of coronavirus around the world. After Curry was diagnosed, several fans started to wonder if he had this illness.

Fortunately, according to team physician Dr. Robert Nied, the 3x NBA champion didn’t test positive for COVID-19. The Warriors released a statement regarding Curry’s absence against Philly and his illness.

“This morning Stephen Curry was diagnosed with influenza A by a positive viral testing,” Nied said in the statement. “We have identified his probable source contact who is not part of basketball operations. He has no specific risk factors for COVID-19. He has the seasonal flu. We have begun treatment for Stephen and instituted our team protocol for influenza exposure.”

Curry just returned to the Warriors lineup on Thursday. Right now there is no timetable for when he will be back with the Dubs.

“I was with Steph yesterday in practice and also in Oakland yesterday afternoon and he was fine,” head coach Steve Kerr said, via Mercury News. “So he woke up this morning feeling sick. I know his young son was sick for a couple of days so he probably got it from his son. But our doctors checked him out and it’s the basic flu.”

The coronavirus is a sensitive topic in the NBA right now. The league even sent a memo to teams asking them to be prepared to play games behind closed doors and having only essential staff in those games.
