The Pelicans found a star in Zion Williamson, but he hasn’t yet had a chance to show what he can do in the NBA. Sadly, Williamson has struggled just to stay on the court in his first three seasons and his value is now at an all-time low following another lost campaign.

While Zion himself may be at least partly to blame for his unavailability, this experience hasn’t been fun for him at all. As Zion explained on the Gilbert Arenas podcast, it hurt not being able to help his team after showing so much promise early on.

“I’m a hooper. When I’m sitting on the sideline watching my teammates in certain games and they losing, I’m like ‘Man, sh*t I know if I was out there I can change the outcome of it.’ That hurt me more than anything.”

Zion has played in just 114 games in three seasons, and only one of them involved suiting up for at least 60 games. To put it bluntly, Williamson hasn’t been able to live up to expectations in New Orleans and it’s putting pressure on everyone involved to figure things out before it’s too late.

Zion Reveals The Truth About His Weight Problem

At nearly 300 pounds, Zion isn’t exactly in the best shape, and all the pressure he’s putting on his body could be playing a role in his poor health over the past few years. Zion has been open about his quest to stay in shape before, and he knows how much of a problem it has become.

“I’m 20-22, have a lot of money, feel like all the money in the world, man. It is hard. I am at that point now because of certain things and the wisdom around me. I don’t wanna say older, but the people around me with wisdom put me on games to certain things and go from there,” said Zion.

Once hailed as the best prospect in the modern NBA, the hype for Williamson has died down significantly. And until he’s able to stay healthy and string together a stretch of solid play, there will always be doubts about his reliability.
