Zion Williamson and Ja Morant came into the league together in 2019, the No. 1 and No. 1 overall picks respectively. Since then, both have become All-Stars, proving they can ball out at the highest level in the NBA.

With the Grizzlies looking like the No. 2 seed in the West and the Pelicans in the play-in tournament range, a first-round matchup between Zion Williamson and Ja Morant is a real possibility. And Zion had something to say about that.

“It would be a great playoff series,” Williamson said. “It’s all I can say. But as a competitor, you want me to say here and say that I’mma lose? No.

“When I’m on that court there are no friends. I just like to win. I love to win. If you want to be cool, we can be cool away from this. But when we’re on this rectangle, nah I’m going at you. I always believe in that. If you take it personal, you take it personal. I believe in that if you’re on the court, I’m going at you.

“I believe Memphis is a great team. I feel like it would be a great playoff series.”

Zion Williamson and Ja Morant are both massive competitors, most fans won’t forget that Ja said he’s fine in the West. And a series between these two young, hungry teams would be a complete spectacle to watch, so hopefully, Zion can be healthy soon and that can happen.

How Would A Series Between Zion Williamson’s Pelicans And Ja Morant’s Grizzlies Turn Out

The New Orleans Pelicans are struggling in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference, but before Zion’s injury, they looked like a top 3 seed. They have defenders, and shooters, along with size, a nightmare matchup for anybody in the NBA. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies have a similar vibe too, but they have had more time with Morant on the floor for them.

Considering that the Grizzlies have experience winning playoff series, some might give them the edge. But when Zion Williamson has played against Ja Morant, he is 4-2 against his draft classmate. Either team could win a 7-game series, but if we’re going by precedent, a healthy Zion Williamson could help the Pelicans upset the Grizzlies if they do meet in a first-round matchup.
