LeBron James is on the verge of winning his fourth NBA Championship. This time with a third franchise and in the Western Conference. Needless to say, this is going to cement his legacy as the greatest player of his generation and one of the greatest of all time.
However, it’s been a while since LeBron James has been a legend. In fact, in 2016, he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever title in franchise history, while also becoming the first team in the history of the game to ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals.
Obviously, they were well aware of the fact that they were against the wall and that the odds weren’t in their favor. Nevertheless, James never stopped believing and even sent a blunt text to the rest of the Cavs’ squad ahead to their trip to Oakland, according to Tristan Thompson:
“In 2016, LeBron texted us saying “I know we’re down 3-1, but if you don’t think we can win this series, then don’t get on the f***in’ plane,” Thompson said on Colin Cowherd’s show.
That’s the kind of contagious leadership that we’ll always praise LeBon James for. That may look like just empty words but even the tiniest ember can ignite a full fire, and that’s what The King did right there.
The Cleveland Cavaliers never looked back. They knew they were overpowered, they knew that they didn’t have a room for error, and they played every single possession as if their lives were on the line.
Now, four years later, LeBron James continues to perform at the highest level and to inspire and push forward every single player around him. He continues to lead by example with a flawless work ethic and, like him or not, you just can’t deny the impact he’s made on every team he’s been on.
