Paul George On Damian Lillard’s 2019 Playoff Game-Winner Vs. OKC: “It’s A Great Shot…”

2 Min Read

Back in 2019, Damian Lillard sent the Thunder home on an amazing game-winning buzzer-beater. Following that crushing defeat, then-OKC star Paul George called Dame’s winner a “bad shot,” inciting criticism from all corners of the community.

“That’s a bad, bad shot,” George said. “I don’t care what anybody says. That’s a bad shot. But hey, he made it. That story won’t be told that it was a bad shot. We live with that.”

Years later, after a ridiculous display of shooting by Dame (which has become quite normal for him), PG is finally reneging on those words.

“I guess I was criticized for the right reason for calling a Dame shot in the playoffs a bad shot… it’s a great shot.”

By the end of the night, Dame was in the All-Star MVP conversation, with 32 points, on 8-16 shooting from downtown. His total also included his team’s game-winner.

Paul George probably made the right call in amending his stance on Lillard’s deep three. If there’s anything we’ve learned from that guy, it’s that he’s an expert at hitting shots way beyond normal range.

And, oftentimes, it’s in the greatest moments that he becomes his most dangerous.
