The GOAT debate of each sport usually has two names that surpass most players. But as for who is the best between them is always up for debate. For basketball, it’s usually Michael Jordan and LeBron James. On the other hand, for soccer, it’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last night PSG forward, Messi, bagged his seventh Ballon d’Or award and became the most decorated soccer player in history. This has led to many fans finally accepting that the GOAT debate between Messi and Ronaldo is over. While Ronaldo has numerous accolades as well, when it comes to Ballon d’Or’s the Portuguese is behind the Argentine.

On the other hand, talking about the GOAT of basketball, most fans regard Michael Jordan should be the one to wear that label. But numerous fans still believe that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James can overtake MJ after it’s all said and done.

Keeping that in mind, the popular Instagram page “ClutchPoints” posted a graphic that displayed the major accolades of all four legends. CP asked a simple question from fans about which player they regard as the GOAT of their respective sport

Since Messi won the illustrious award for the seventh time, the soccer community has been shaken. Some are simply in awe of the little magician, others still believe that Robert Lewandowski was robbed. Anyway, here are some of the best comments on the aforementioned Instagram post:

brwnoterra: “Messi and MJ all day of my life.”

charmed1taz: “With Jordan let’s throw in 6x finals mvp, 5x league mvp, dpoy, numerous 1st team all league defender, 10x scoring champ.”

terencemsm: “Lebron & Ronaldo.”

da.richkid: “Right by a mile only cause I know about them more.”

lutho._: “Messi/Bron. Next question.”

yasarh01: “It’s anyone else bothered by the fact that LeBron should have more then 4 MVPs?”

leultrainstinct: “Ronaldo and bron. Mj may have more rings and fmvp. But the 3-1 comeback is more valuable than anything mj ever accomplished‼️”

ayeojae: “Lebron is probably the worlds greatest athlete of our time but if I had to pick here- soccer is a bigger sport around the world so the left side- but if I had to pick one from each side Messi and Mike.”

arturarouck: “I think LeBron and MJ would be better soccer players than Messi and Ronaldo would be basketball players, so I’ll go with right.“

originalcal: “Nobody was debating his GOAT status..Just that Lewa deserved it last year and this.”

wongkabongka_12: “Messi mj, what kinda question is this.”

ramybt: “Ronaldo is the Goat, Lewandowski was robbed this year.”

frankiejpop: “Naw lewa should have won it in 2019-2020 season not for 2021. Look at Barcelona now without messi, Messi deserved it forsure for the 20-21 season, Ronaldo lovers just can’t stand to see messi win .”

ferrarotomas_: “Messi was already the GOAT, when they ask other footballers, real legends say messi, while only Portuguese ppl and old teammates of ronaldo, choose him.”

As usual, such questions result in some heated debate in the comments section. Even then, the most common answer is that Lionel Messi is the GOAT of soccer, while Michael Jordan holds that title for basketball.

At the end of the day, each individual will have a different take on the GOAT debate. But the consensus will remain in favor of the above-mentioned players.
