Luka Doncic Claims He’s More Confident From The Logo Than When Shooting Regular 3PT Shots And Free Throws

Luka Doncic is already a superstar at the age of 22, and it’s clear that he has a bright future ahead of him. He is already giving the Dallas Mavericks amazing production and is the fulcrum of their offense. Doncic averaged 27.7 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 8.6 APG for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2020-21 season.

No player is perfect though, and one of Doncic’s noted weaknesses has been his 3PT shooting. The Slovenian hasn’t shot above 35% from beyond the arc in his career, and he was 1-7 from the 3PT range during the Mavericks’ recent game against the Sacramento Kings.

The one attempt from deep that did going in for Luka Doncic was a ridiculous logo shot that happened in the 4th quarter. After the game, Doncic stated that he is more confident from the logo than he is shooting regular 3PT shots and free throws while adding that he has “got to work on those normal shots”.

Luka Doncic (23 points, 1-7 3s, 2-6 FT): “More confident [from the logo] than all my 3s and my free throws. I don’t understand how that shot goes in and then all my normal shots can’t go in. I’ve got to work on those normal shots.” https://t.co/yj9kwZyeu5

More confident [from the logo] than all my 3s and my free throws. I don’t understand how that shot goes in and then all my normal shots can’t go in. I’ve got to work on those normal shots.

It’s astounding that Luka Doncic feels this way, but there have definitely been players who thrive when taking more difficult shots rather than easy stand-still shots. Perhaps it’s got something to do with being in rhythm, and being better at shooting on the move.

If Luka Doncic can improve his 3PT shooting, he’ll certainly become a much better player than he is now. While we shouldn’t expect him to suddenly become Stephen Curry from range, he could potentially make some improvements to his percentage. Some defenders already believe that Luka Doncic is the toughest player to guard in the NBA, and any improvement will help him become even more unguardable.
