Andre Drummond Reacts After Being Booed In Detroit: “At The End Of The Day. It’s Basketball. They’re Sports Fans. They’re Not Gonna Cheer For The Opposing Team. No Love Lost Here.”

Andre Drummond is playing in his fourth team in one year after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. Following two tumultuous stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, the big man joined Doc Rivers’ team, trying to help them compete in a stacked Eastern Conference.

On Friday, he returned to Detroit, where he played from 2012 through 2020, becoming one of the best players on the team during that time. The fans at the Little Ceasars Palace welcomed him with boos, trying to get under his skin.

This is normal, knowing that he was playing for the rival team, but it’s still curious that Drummond got that treatment after being one of the team’s lights. Well, the player isn’t mad about it and even claimed that he understood the fans’ reaction.

Via Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire:

“At the end of the day. It’s basketball,” said Drummond. “They’re sports fans here. They’re not gonna cheer for the opposing team. No love lost here. I still love Detroit. At the end of the day, I’m still gonna talk positively about the city. It doesn’t affect me in any way. It’s a basketball game.”

Considering Drummond has now been in the league 10 years, this is nothing new for him to experience at this point of his career.

“I’ve been booed plenty of times, he continued. “It’s not that’s gonna affect me in any way…I enjoy it. I don’t really use that kind of stuff. I’m playing for 10 years. I’ve been booed and ‘F youd’ plenty of times so nothing new.”

Cavaliers and Lakers fans have plenty of reasons to be mad at Drummond, but that’s a different story. When it comes to Detroit, though, the player was a fan-favorite there and sometimes the only good thing to see on the Pistons.

This had something to do with the fact that he’s playing with the Sixers, so there’s no need to worry about it. As Drummond said, there’s no love lost there.
