The Denver Nuggets lost 129-121 to the Chicago Bulls. The Nuggets were facing one of the weakest teams in the Eastern Conference and appeared to be favorites coming into the game. But the Nuggets just couldn’t put things together and ended up getting humiliated by the Bulls.
Nikola Jokic put up yet another triple-double with 33 points (15-21 FG), 12 rebounds, 14 assists, one steal, and one block. Christian Braun had a decent game, with 28 points (11-15 FG), five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. Michael Porter Jr. put up strong numbers, with 18 points (7-15 FG), seven rebounds, and one steal.
The Bulls were led by Zach LaVine, who delivered 21 points (6-13 FG), three rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Nikola Vucevic put up strong numbers as well, with 20 points (9-23 FG), 10 rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Lonzo Ball had one of his best games this season, with 18 points (6-10 FG), four rebounds, one steal, and one block.
The Nuggets didn’t do a good job tonight, despite their star players putting up big numbers. Their defense was their biggest weakness tonight, and it showed how far the Nuggets have fallen from the last two seasons when they had won the NBA championship.
Nuggets fans were incredibly frustrated with the way their team played. A lot of the blame was directed in the direction of Jamal Murray and Michael Malone, with many lamenting that Jokic might miss out on the chance to win his fourth MVP because of losses like this in the long run.
“The Nuggets and Celtics having CTE at the same time is nauseating.”
“What more does Jokic have to do? Denver Nuggets are actually washed without him.”
“Fire Michael Malone and trade for Lavine…”
“Nuggets just lost to the 10th seed in the ‘Leastern Conference’.”
“Murray and Malone are the sole reason why Jokic won’t be winning another MVP again.”
“The defense was awful. Peyton Watson needs to learn how to dunk and not have such a low basketball IQ. Horrendous and inexcusable performance tonight.”
“It boggles my mind how Denver Nuggets fans watch the whole season and still think this team doesn’t need a trade… We ain’t watching the same games, I guess.”
“Just watched Lonzo put clamps on the Nuggets in the clutch and hit a big-time 3! LAKER HIM!”
“The Nuggets bench outscored 41-10 in one of the worst losses of the year. It’s clear this team as currently constructed cannot win a title.”
“Keep in mind the Denver Nuggets lost to this team if you didn’t think a healthy Mavs wouldn’t be among the best teams in the whole NBA.”
Nikola Jokic knows just how good he has been, claiming recently that he was playing the best basketball of his entire career. So for him to see this kind of performance from his teammates has to be frustrating on some level.
The Nuggets will want to remind fans and the rest of the league that they are still championship contenders. To do so, they will have to make a statement against another contender, the New York Knicks, whom they face on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM at Madison Square Garden.
