Bleacher Report

Doc Rivers has broken the silence on the Ben Simmons situation, making bold claims about what he expects for the Philadelphia 76ers and their distant star.

Simmons reportedly informed the team he won’t attend training camp or play another game with them, setting the alarms for Daryl Morey, Doc Rivers, and co. The 2008 NBA champion coach recently joined ESPN’s First Take, reflecting on this situation, giving his thoughts on how the franchise is approaching it.

Rivers made it clear that he wants Simmons to be back with the team, praising all the good things the Australian player brings to the table.

"We hear it all, but we're not going to give up on that…I just love how [Ben Simmons] plays. I love a lot of the things that he does for the team…but we have to go through all this to get him back"

“We hear it all, but we’re not going to give up on that…I just love how [Ben Simmons] plays. I love a lot of the things that he does for the team…but we have to go through all this to get him back,” Rivers stated, according to Marc Farzetta.

It’s still unclear how this situation is going to end, but the Sixers have some work to do. They have tried to win a championship with Simmons and Joel Embiid, but things haven’t gone in their favor so far.

Some fans still believed they could run it back next season, but Ben has different plans. Several teams have been linked with the point guard, yet the Sixers aren’t entertaining any offers for the 26-year-old.

Time will tell how this plays out for all parties involved, but it seems like some within the organization still want Simmons with them. Rivers’ relationship with the player is reportedly unsalvageable right now, but the coach didn’t miss his chance to try to convince the star to give it another shot.
