Every now and then, Evan Fournier engages in debates with fans, asking interesting questions and even trolling other players with his tweets. The Frenchman recently presented two imaginary scenarios for fans trying to see what night they prefer on the court.
The new New York Knicks member took to Twitter to ask fans what they would rather do: record a flashy 27-point game or a quiet 40-piece. In either case, you’ll get the win. But, he didn’t clarify that at the beginning.
I had that argument last night, would you rather have a LOUD 27 (step backs, dunks, ect) or a quiet 40 ( all lay ups and FT) ?

You win both games obviously. I went for the quiet 40 https://t.co/4pDUPWYVAc

That said, fans started debating, making valid points on why they’ll go for one or the other.
18-42 fgs 4-9fts = 40 pts
10-13 fgs 7-7 fts = 27 pts
Now choose

Yeah you've got to remember Duncan end of the day has 5 rings playing like that. Maybe he's not the mediatic monster like others, but he was bringing what the team needed.

a 40 is a 40 🤷♂️

Depends on the game, sometimes you need those "loud" points to get your fans going/quiet opposing fans which can help get the rest of your team going. Most of the time a quiet 40 is obviously better though.

I'd rather have the quiet 40… My example for that would be Mr Fundamental! Not a highlight guy but one of the best players to have ever played this game. Basketball is not just about money and endorsements…

Why would that ever be an argument. A quiet 28 is better than a loud 27.
— Dan Kelley (@DanKelley66) August 23, 2021
Quiet 40. That means the other stats would be there too. Loud 27 sounds like a lot of misses and ball hogging (JR Smith on the Knicks type) Maybe I’m looking at it wrong though.

You might have a better chance to win the game with a quiet 40 (slowing the game down with all the FTs). Whatever helps you get the W.

I would prefer what has the most impact on the win. If it's mentaly to kill the opponent on a big momentum I would go for 27 explosive points, if it's scoring 40 because the team needs points from me, whatever the way, do the job and bring scoring.

Knowing that either performance would give you the victory, this will be a personal choice depending on who you ask. Some fans pointed out that Tim Duncan never made a lot of noise, and he was very effective, winning five NBA championships and becoming one of the all-time greats.
In contrast, you can have a night where you pump fans up with spectacular plays, inspire your teammates and still grab the W. This is indeed a subjective question. Either way, you’re getting the victory. Fournier, for example, picked the quiet 40.
