NBA fans are constantly arguing about anything. They’re always trying to prove their point in debates, especially when it comes to the best player in the association.
These arguments can get really heated since everybody has their favorite player and often a good case to defend them. Recently, The Athletic sorted the NBA’s best 125 players into five distinct tiers.
The most important players were placed in Tier 1A, Tier 1B, Tier 2A, Tier 2B, and Tier 2C.
Tier 1A: Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant
Tier 1B: James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Jokic, and Steph Curry
Tier 2A: Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic
Tier 2B: Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, and Paul George
Tier 2C: Bam Adebayo, Chris Paul, Jayson Tatum, Khris Middleton, and Kyrie Irving

As usual, fans weren’t pleased with some positions, starting debates about what player deserves a higher or lower spot on these tiers. After Redditor “machu46” shared the tiers with the community, arguments didn’t take long to start.
If you woke up today and wanted to argue with someone. This is your thread
Bam is waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too high
Yeah I love Bam but he doesn’t belong in Tier 2 on this list
Anybody remember that horrendous top 100 list last season? I remember Bam being either 12th or 13th on it.
Bam is good but I don’t get how people keep overrating the dude so much.
RJ BARRETT SNUBBED
saw bruce brown and noel ahead of him especially as a knicks fan i can tell people straight up on last years team noel was probably the 6th best player (randle, RJ, rose, mitch, quickley ahead of him in that order)
besides barrett tho this list is really bad
This whole list gave no love to the Knicks. Apparently Julius Randle is in the same tier as Joe Ingles… Like what?
The Athletic really wants 30 ppg Curry again this season…
Bro I’ve literally been turned into a steph fan purely off the amount of disrespect he’s been getting these last few years.
I’ve said for at least 4 years Steph is literally on the court with all time greats because you can’t construct a better big three than Steph, MJ, LeBron IMO. Throw KD and Shaq on there and show me any other possible starting 5 that has a single chance in hell in a 7 game series.
How the f**k do you leave Curry out of that tier?
Marketing and shoes usually. Nothing to see here.
People forget that the season before KD joined the warriors, Steph won unanimous MVP over KD and knocked him out the playoffs. They belong in the same tier.
Honestly….I would make tier 1 5 or 6 guys
Distinguishing between all of them is just overreacting to recency bias or narratives. Remember when Kawhi was “the best player in the nba” 18 months ago it’s all just fickle
Like sorry but I still think Steph is the 2nd best player in the nba as I’ve thought for 6 or 7 years now
Also prediction for next year that most will disagree with right now: harden will be the best player on the nets next year
How in God’s name is Steph Curry not in tier 1
Steph needs to be tier 1.
apparently he’s too short
How THE F**K can Trae Young and Ben Simmons be on the same tier after these playoffs??? ♂️
Whatever the rankings may be, if you don’t have LeBron, KD, Giannis, Steph, and Kawhi as your top 5, there’s nothing to talk about.
And people wonder why Steph fans get so defensive. This shit is ridiculous. “Size concerns” keeping him out of 1A like he hasn’t been dominating the league since 2014 and completely killing the size narrative.
Bron, KD, and Giannis make sense.
Curry, Kawhi, and Harden should be in there too tho
These rankings, lists, pyramids, and whatever you can think about will always bring controversy. Fans are ready to prove their point against whoever dares to say something different and that won’t end while we’re here.
After Kevin Durant returned to the league last season, the debate about the best player in the league between him and LeBron James got hot again. We have several discussions around the league, and while most of them will never be settled, fans keep entertaining them, hoping to win at least one debate.
