Video: Dennis Schroder Shows Off His Skateboarding Skills

There are plenty of NBA players who partake in other sports during their offseason/free time. For example, there are a lot of former and current players who partake in golf. Others may enjoy sports such as soccer. For Dennis Schroder, that sport seems to be skateboarding.

A recent video captured Dennis Schroder skateboarding, with the point guard showing off some tricks in his bag during the process. It is clear from the footage that Dennis Schroder is actually pretty solid at skateboarding, and while basketball is his main focus, this is a worthwhile hobby.

It seems as though skateboarding is a hobby that Dennis Schroder has carried on from his childhood to the NBA. In Justin Hodges’ article about Schroder’s upbringing, he reveals that Schroder used to skate “past the sunset” during his childhood.

Believe it or not, Schroder was a complete skateboarding fanatic.

Dennis Schroder grew up as an athlete on every essence. He’d spend long hours of the day at local parks. Occasionally shooting a basketball, sometimes kicking a soccer ball around, but mainly skating up past the sunset. A daily routine would be Schroder out and about his activities until nearly midnight.

Eventually Liviu Calin, head coach of the German basketball Loewen Braunschweig’s youth program, would come to the parks to recruit talent because that’s what he had to do. Although Schroder had yet to ever play basketball in an indoor facility, he was heavily recruited to play by Calin simply because of the athleticism he possessed.

During this free agency period, Dennis Schroder’s name made rounds among NBA fans, and it wasn’t because of his skateboarding ability. Dennis Schroder missed out on a huge payday, notably rejecting an $84M extension from the Los Angeles Lakers. As we’ve gone further into free agency, it seems as though that decision was a mistake. No multi-year deal materialized for Dennis Schroder, and he was recently forced to take a one-year deal from the Boston Celtics. Hopefully, Dennis Schroder is able to have a good year and get a long-term high-money deal in the future.
