Jimmy Butler is staying put in Miami after recording a couple of good seasons with the Heat. The veteran swingman brought the Floridian team back to life after a couple of rocky stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers.
He played in the 2020 NBA Finals in the bubble, taking the Los Angeles Lakers to six games. Now Jimmy is rewarded with a new contract that will keep it on the roster for four more years.
Via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:
Miami Heat All-Star guard Jimmy Butler has signed a four-year, $184 million contract extension with the team, his agent Bernie Lee told ESPN.
Butler is extending off of his $36 million salary for the 2021-2022 season, and holds a player option for $37.6 million in the 2022-23 season.
The deal will keep him under contract through the 2025-26 season.
Butler has become the heart and soul of the Heat in the past two seasons. He’s expected to lead the team to compete in the Eastern Conference alongside Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry. Jimmy is a valuable piece for the team, and Pat Riley explained it very well.
“Jimmy is the anchor and face of our franchise along with Bam and Kyle,” Riley said in a statement. “With Jimmy, we get an All-NBA player, an All-NBA Defensive player, tough as nails and a complete player across the board. He’s very deserving of this contract as he continually puts himself at the top of the league at his position. Having him in the HEAT organization has been a great, great coup for us.”
This is a great deal for Butler and the Heat. They added a couple of interesting pieces this offseason. Everybody in South Beach expects them to reach the Finals again, winning that ring after eight years.
