NBA Rumors: Clippers Could’ve Traded Paul George If They Didn’t Meet Expectations This Season

Paul George just finished a terrific 2020/21 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers, taking them to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately, they lost to the Phoenix Suns in six games.

PG13 redeemed himself with this great playoff run, demonstrating he can be that guy for the Clippers. The team really enhanced its level from last season, playing in the WCF for the first time ever, making fans dream about their future.

However, if none of this happened, the Clippers were reportedly willing to blow it up and deal George elsewhere. Jabari Young of CNBC writes that the one executive believed the Clips were ready to part ways with the swingman if they didn’t get the results this season.

Talking about potential destinations for Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum, Young said:

A Western Conference executive floated the idea of the Clippers trading Paul George this summer if the team failed to meet expectations. Hence, a possible McCollum to the Clippers package.

Fortunately, the Clippers had a very good season, reaching important stages. Now they have big decisions to face regarding PG and Kawhi Leonard. If Kawhi sits out the entire 2021/22 season and the Clips think of trading George away, they might have good options to do so.

This is speculation, obviously, but this year-to-year league can see a lot of changes in only one summer. Take a look at Damian Lillard and how his departure from Portland can change a lot around the league.
