It’s not a secret that Kyrie Irving is one of the most impactful and talented players in the world. Nonetheless, he’s also one of the most controversial athletes in history.

From his flat-earth theories to calling out Thanksgiving as a holiday to his constant antics towards the media, Kyrie has made the headlines for bad and good reasons alike throughout his career.

Even so, his former teammate Jayson Tatum believes that he’s just a misunderstood person that gets more criticism than he should:

“He’s (Kyrie) misunderstood. I’m sure there’s some things that he’s probably done or said that he has apologized for,” Tatum said on Beyond The Press. “Everybody has done things that they’re not proud of or said things they shouldn’t. The world we live in, everybody’s so quick to judge, which is unfair because we just live in a spotlight. I’m sure if all those people who point fingers and talk about all of us on TV had to live in a spotlight. And, everything they said or did was national news. They wouldn’t be so perfect either.”

That seems to be what most of his former teammates think about him. and those who know him actually say that he’s a pretty easy-going and good guy.

Irving doesn’t do much to help his case with all the things he does and tells the media, and that’s why he’s always in the spotlight. Then again, the press should never question his character as a person.

Pundits and analysts love to call Irving out for refusing to address the media because that’s a part of his job and he needs to fulfill his contractual obligations. But maybe, we should give him and pass and just let him do what he does best, which is hopping.
