NBA Rumors: Chris Paul To Sign 3-Year, $100M Deal With Phoenix Suns In The Offseason

The relationship between Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns is a match made in heaven. The All-Star point guard has been great wherever he’s played, and this season he found his place in the world again.

The Suns are on the verge of eliminating the 2020 NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers, so it’s not surprising that the team’s front office will try to keep CP3 on the roster beyond this season.

This guy isn’t slowing down and continues to thrive every season. He’s a key reason for the Suns’ 2nd seed in the Western Conference this campaign, making things easy for them to offer Paul a new deal.

According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the 36-year-old Paul could decline his player option to work on a new deal with the Suns that will still pay him a lot of money.

Paul has a $44.4 million player option, which according to several sources, he intends to decline with hopes of inking a new multiyear deal (perhaps in the $100 million range over three seasons). It’s unclear if his recent shoulder injury changes his plans. Gordon Hayward, who has battled more severe injuries than Paul, made a similar decision this past offseason, opting out of his final year with the Boston Celtics to sign a four-year, $120 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets.

CP3 has options to keep making money and competing in the league. He really likes being in Phoenix, creating a terrific trio with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, so it would be odd if he decides to leave that situation.

They’re already one of the best teams in the NBA. Keeping Paul on the roster while Booker and Ayton keep developing will bring many benefits for the Suns.
