Andre Drummond Reportedly Told Cavs Teammate That He Will Sign A Max Contract This Summer

Andre Drummond has entered the buyout market after he agreed to end his relationship with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. The player is ready to join a contender and it’s fair to say he has drawn a lot of attention around the league ever since the Cavs announced they would try to find a trade partner for the big man.

Well, now Drummond is free to sign with whichever team he wants, trying to revitalize his career and get a big deal in the offseason. He seems to be confident in his chances to strike a new big deal in the league since he predicted that at the start of the season. According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, Drummond told his teammates that he was going to get a max deal in the summer knowing that that’s the ‘rule’ in the league; once you sign a minimum, you’re lined up to get the max.

“That outcome could also appeal to Drummond, who, according to sources, told teammates earlier this season he would be getting the max in summer free agency,” wrote Fedor. “How often do players sign for the minimum and then turn around and get big deals? It’s hard to change perception, especially heading into an important offseason.”

Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers have shown their interest in Drummond, and the Boston Celtics have emerged as a serious candidate to sign the 27-year-old. The Brooklyn Nets are also keeping tabs on the player, as he starts meeting with franchises to know what’s the best option for him.

This season, Drummond is posting 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. He was separated from his teammates in February, with the Cavs trying to find a trade partner for the player. Now he’s looking to sign with a team that can compete and maximize his chances to get the deal that he wants to bad.
