Cam Whitmore spoke after the Houston Rockets‘ 110-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks. He noted that his contribution on the night, and this season with the Rockets may be strong, but doesn’t lead to any change. He added that his minutes haven’t increased, and while he will wait to see if this changes, he is happy with the win on the night.

“I contributed a little bit, but it doesn’t really affect anything. Doesn’t really, you know, can’t get me anywhere, but we’ll see what happens, but just glad we got the win.”

Whitmore sounded frustrated with the situation, and despite him putting in a lot of effort to try and improve his standing within the team, he isn’t getting the role or the minutes that he is looking for. Ime Udoka hasn’t factored him into the long-term rotation of the Rockets in a significant role.

Against the Mavericks, Whitmore played well, coming off the bench to put up 18 points (7-9 FG), three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. For the season, Whitmore is averaging about 13.2 minutes per game, with 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game while shooting 46.0% from the field, 27.1% from the three-point line, and 72.0% from the free-throw line.

Despite his strong contributions, including a season-high 27 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on December 26th, he hasn’t earned a start for the Rockets. Ime Udoka clearly doesn’t trust Whitmore to start for the Rockets just yet, only playing him 13 minutes a game off the bench. Perhaps this could be a sign that his future isn’t in Houston.

The Rockets are a team primed to take the next step and become contenders, after their strong start to the season. The Rockets currently sit third in the Western Conference, with a 22-11 record. And with a move to land a superstar, they could become genuine championship favorites.

Rockets Should Make A Big Move Soon

The Rockets have a little over a month to make some trades this season. They have a wealth of assets, and young players that they can use to pull off a big move and add a massive, game-changing star to their roster.

But who should they go for? Well, we just so happen to have the answer to that question, as Fadeaway World ranked all of the Rockets’ potential trade targets by priority. Given their team’s playing style, several players could slot in perfectly within their roster.

We also pitched the Rockets making a big move and landing disgruntled Kings superstar De’Aaron Fox, who might be looking for an exit from Sacramento.

The Rockets, for the longest time, have held interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo, but it appears that interest has dissipated, and they are looking at different players to try and improve their team.

Of course, one player in the NBA who has been synonymous with the Rockets for more than a decade is James Harden. But the Rockets shouldn’t take the nostalgia bait, as he is one of the five players in the NBA that they should absolutely avoid trading for.
