LaVar Ball: “I Called Steve Kerr The Milli Vanilli Of Coaching. He Called Me The Kardashian Of Basketball. Steve Kerr Does Nothing But Stand There.”

LaVar Ball is back with his curious comments, the same that made him one of the biggest names in the league in recent years. The Ball family patriarch had some things to say about Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, who have won three titles with the franchise.

Before the 2020 NBA draft, Ball said he didn’t want the Warriors to draft his son LaMelo Ball, and they didn’t, picking James Wiseman with the second overall selection of the night. Melo ended up in Charlotte, playing for the Hornets. Now LaVar had the chance to explain why he didn’t want to see his son playing alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Well, he blamed Kerr for that, calling him a fake coach.

“I told Steve Kerr, and time has gone by, I called him the Milli Vanilli of coaching,” LaVar said Thursday on ‘Under the Bus’. “Don’t get mad at me because that’s what it is. But he’s going to hold something against my son if he starts doing some stuff and this what he going to say ‘We don’t do that around here.’ Now you got Melo trying to play the game listening to me and the guy he works for. You can’t perform like that. You can’t have that over your head.”

He then was asked by Mychal Thompson (Klay’s father) why he used that name for Kerr, and he reminded the time that the former Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs player called him a ‘Kardashian’.

“He called me the Kardashian of basketball,” LaVar said. “All he had to do was call me LaVar Ball and we woulda been fine. I call him the Milli Vanilli because you ain’t coaching, you just standing up. I could coach them with my eyes closed.”

They are getting very creative with nicknames in recent days and Ball isn’t one to back down to anybody. Right now his two sons are having big seasons in the association, with Lonzo getting a lot of attention from contender teams trying to improve their level. As for Melo, he’s the clear favorite to win the 2021 ROY award.

He has two sons making a lot of noise in the association and Ball can’t wait to see what else they can do in the future. The Warriors reportedly told the 19-year-old that they were going to draft him but then selected Wiseman. Things would have been very different for LaVar and his son if that actually happened.
