LeBron James is taking his talents to Pepsi after finishing an 18-year relationship with their biggest rival, Coke. The King is still looking for new opportunities to make new things not only in his career but in the business world. Right after striking a deal to become a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, James keeps making moves.

According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, his signing with PepsiCo is now official and he’s left his prior relationship with Coca-Cola. He was with them for 18 years, the same years he’s been in the NBA. Those changes are never easy but the player decided it was time for a fresh start and he’s ready to bring all his ideas to Pepsi.

“LeBron’s contract came up at a time when both he and The Coca-Cola Company were actively reviewing all of its resources to make sure it was investing in places that ensured long-term growth,” A Coca-Cola spokesperson said, according to McCarthy. “After many discussions with Lebron and his team, we mutually agreed to part ways.”

What we know about the James-Pepsi partnership and the new drink:

  • PepsiCo declined to give specifics, but called it a “multiyear partnership” that will activate across other categories, including snacks.
  • MTN DEW RISE will also work with several sports and wellness influencers. The brand plans to host virtual morning workouts at this month’s South by Southwest festival.
  • The energy drink will be available in 16 oz cans in six flavors: Pomegranate Blue Burst, Orange Breeze, Strawberry Melon Spark, Tropical Sunrise, Berry Blitz, and Peach Mango Dawn.

LeBron is joining a group of big stars that are part of the company, including Zion Williamson and Joel Embiid. Pepsi has added a couple of good names to their ranks in recent times and you can say LeBron is the cherry on the top. They have a lot of work to do to take this company to the next level but they are on the right path.

James always brings a lot of attention to whatever he’s doing and this case won’t be the exception.
