The Houston Rockets and Miami Heat had a great Sunday night clash which ended 104-100 in Miami’s favor after the franchise mounted a strong fourth-quarter comeback. The main headline from the game won’t be the clash, but the fight between Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro.

Thompson and Herro got into a scuffle which saw the sophomore guard slam Herro to the ground to make more headlines in what has been a feisty week in the NBA.

Unsurprisingly, Amen was ejected from the game and will likely be handed a lengthy suspension given the punishments handed out to Jusuf Nurkic and Naji Marshall for their fight from earlier this week. Marshall was suspended four games while Nurkic was suspended three games for their fight, so Amen might land a bigger penalty due to his aggression being a lot more pronounced.

Herro will get off scot-free in terms of a suspension, but his ejection from the game was a little surprising. He did seemingly antagonize Amen during their exchange of words and jersey tussling before Thompson tossed him, but I don’t think Herro did anything worthy of him being tossed.

Thompson, Herro, Jalen Green, and Terry Rozier were ejected from the game due to the scuffle.

This was a hard-fought game as the Heat overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half to earn this win without Jimmy Butler. Herro led the team with 27 points (10-17 FG) while Amen put up five points (2-4 FG), five rebounds, and five assists in an all-around game where his offensive impact was lacking as usual.

Amen is just in his second NBA season, so he needs to find ways to contain his anger. The penalty is undecided, but it’s likely going to cause him to miss games and hurt the Rockets while they try to earn the No. 2 seed in the West.

Shots Thrown After The Game

Tyler Herro didn’t seem too bothered by the interaction after the game but decided to throw shots at Amen after the game.

“Guess that’s what’s happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing. I’d get mad too.”

Rockets head coach Ime Udoka took Amen’s side after the game, mocking Herro’s strength after the Rockets guard tossed Herro to the ground.

“They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit. One guy is stronger than the other.”

This was a pretty wild interaction which likely will lead to a suspension for Amen at the minimum. If Herro instigated the scuffle with his words he might also find himself getting suspended, but he chose to not get into the fight after he was tossed.

Herro is averaging 24.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists this season, emerging as an All-Star candidate while Thompson is averaging 11.9 points and 7.1 rebounds, breaking into the Rockets rotation as an ace defender and rebounder.
