The Blockbuster Trade Idea: Brooklyn Nets Could Get Pascal Siakam For Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, And Taurean Prince

The Brooklyn Nets could be in need of some offensive help after the long-term injury to Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie was one of the key cogs in the Brooklyn Nets’ elite roster, serving as a great two-way guard and third option to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. With that injury, perhaps the Brooklyn Nets could bolster their ranks with someone who can bring the same sort of scoring in the starting lineup.

Pascal Siakam could be a solid trade target for the Brooklyn Nets. Pascal Siakam has notoriously struggled ever since the Orlando bubble. Some of his struggles can be attributed due to high defensive coverage: on the Raptors, he is the main scoring option so he gets a lot of attention from the opposing team. On the Nets though, Pascal Siakam would be free to play his game, as teams would probably focus on the two superstars on the roster. Here is a potential trade package for the Toronto Raptors star.

Brooklyn Nets Receive: Pascal Siakam

Toronto Raptors Receive: Caris LeVert, Taurean Prince, Jarrett Allen, a future pick

The Toronto Raptors Re-Load

The Toronto Raptors currently hold an abysmal 1-4 record. While it could still turn around, this year the Raptors are clearly worse. Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol are gone, and while Aron Baynes is a solid player, his inside presence isn’t remotely as imposing as the other two. Both of the Raptors’ former centers were great defensive players: Ibaka led the league in blocks earlier in his career, while Gasol was a former DPOY. There’s a reason that the Los Angeles teams poached them from the Raptors’ roster. The Raptors also don’t have an elite shot-creator in the clutch: they don’t have a DeMar DeRozan or a Kawhi Leonard for late-game situations. With this trade, the Raptors could solve a lot of their problems.

Caris LeVert was one of the breakout stars of the bubble. During the bubble in Orlando, he showed that he can be a great scorer and playmaker while doing everything on the basketball court. He has shown the ability to shoot the ball without fear. On the Nets, LeVert is playing as a third option, but on the Raptors, he could blossom into a star. Jarrett Allen is one of the backup centers in the league that needs a full-time starting job. He is an elite shot-blocker, and a solid pick and roll player. Allen is also stuck in the back of the rotation for the Nets, with his former starting job going to DeAndre Jordan. Taurean Prince is there for contract matching purposes but is also a good 3 and D player. As for the pick, it will probably be a low-value pick due to the Brooklyn Nets being good. But adding it to the package on top of two good prospects could entice the Toronto Raptors to take a deal that’s too good to refuse.

The Brooklyn Nets Create A Big Three

The Nets were rumored to be in the talks for Rockets superstar James Harden. However, there has been no deal that’s materialized, partly due to the Rockets wanting a lot for an MVP caliber player. Pascal Siakam is an All-Star, but he’s nowhere close to as good as James Harden. Despite his poor performances, he has shown to be capable of being a second option on a championship-caliber team, so making him the third option should in theory make the game easier for him. The Nets don’t necessarily need another dominant scorer: they need a two-way player who has the ability to score but is also good at the intangibles like passing and defense. Siakam could be the perfect fit.

Siakam could play the PF spot, moving Kevin Durant back to the SF position, where the former MVP is at his best. Siakam would take some defensive pressure off of Durant, allowing Durant to be more of a help defender which he is amazing at. With the best defenders having to guard other players, Siakam can attack mismatches off the dribble and also spot up for threes in the corner. On the Nets, Siakam won’t be forced to be a shot creator his entire time on the court, and that would let him play more of his free-wheeling two-way game. Siakam would definitely upgrade the Nets’ roster on both ends. Dinwiddie might leave for greener pastures next season (player option on contract), so a trade for a star that’s locked up for a few seasons could be good for the Nets. This trade would solidify the Nets’ dominance in the Eastern Conference while giving the Toronto Raptors prospects who are a good fit for their roster.
