LeBron James has agreed to extend his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA superstar has agreed to a 2-year, $85 million contract extension with the franchise, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

LeBron comes from winning his fourth NBA title in the Orlando bubble, the first one with the Lakers and the 17th championship in franchise history. James has been the best player in the league for quite some time now and the Lakers have secured his services for two more seasons.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $85 million maximum contract extension with the franchise, CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, told @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

The deal runs through 2022/23, where James will be 38 years old.

The King has done a terrific job in his second season with the Lakers, taking them to the promised land after a complicated first campaign in Los Angeles. The Lakers are still waiting for Anthony Davis to re-sign with them, but everything points out AD will be part of the team once training camp starts.

The Lakers are reportedly planning to build around Davis once James is gone but that should wait a couple years more. The association between the players has been terrific and the Lakers want to cash in on LeBron’s longevity as much as they can before turning their heads to a different star.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have all been linked with the purple and gold but their present and immediate future include James as part of the team.
