Stephen Curry Sends A Message To The Lakers: “We Know The Lakers Are The Defending Champs. We Got To Beat Them. We’re Ready For It.”

Stephen Curry is ready to start a new season with the Golden State Warriors and even though they will miss Klay Thompson this season, Curry is hopeful that the team is going to do a good job after a terrible 2019/20 NBA season. Even Curry went down with a broken hand last campaign and the Warriors ended up having the league-worst record, 15-50, but now it’s time to get their revenge.

Golden State isn’t the same team that dominated the league from 2015 through 2019 but they are still capable of competing in today’s NBA, even without Klay. Of course, Thompson’s absence will always hurt them but Curry is confident they can compete against anybody in the association. As a matter of fact, Steph made it clear that the Warriors are ready to take on the Lakers in a hypothetical playoffs series.

Talking with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, the 2016 NBA MVP issued a warning for the current NBA champions, stating that the Warriors are ready to compete.

“It’s going to hard at first, for sure. We’ve been waiting seven months to get back out there,” Curry said. “Not seeing [Thompson] on the court, at first, is going to be weird. But I think we’ve done a really good job in the offseason with James and our draft picks and in the free agency pool to put together a really solid roster. We’re going to have to learn a lot really quickly, and we will need a full commitment from everybody.

“We know we can compete with anyone in the league. It’s kind of crazy. We know how great Klay is. Don’t get me wrong. But we hear the chatter. ‘It’s the end of for us. This year is a wash. What are we going to do in the future?’ But we are in the moment right now. It’s kind of refreshing being in that category as guys that are chasing. We know [the Los Angeles Lakers] are the defending champs. We got to beat them. We’re ready for it.”

The Warriors are looking for their revenge season and even though Klay’s absence will make things hard for them, Steph is confident that the team can make some noise this season in the league. They landed Kelly Oubre Jr. via trade and drafted James Wiseman last week; they have a young and fast team to compete in the West. Perhaps they won’t win the championship next year, but the Warriors won’t be the wandering team they were last season.
