NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Could Land Kyle Lowry For Three Players And A Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Lakers are fresh off winning their 17th NBA Championship but they won’t be satisfied. They know that all of their competition will get better for next year and they’re aware that they have to make some moves if they want to stay at the top of the world.

The Lakers are rumored to be interested in another playmaker, which could help LeBron James stay fresh for key stretches. Moreover, it would allow him to thrive in the post next to Anthony Davis and create a more dynamic offense.

That’s why Dan Favale of Bleacher Report suggested that they could make a ‘Hail Mary’ run at Kyle Lowry, as the Toronto Raptors could try and take a different approach to next season as they hope to lure Giannis Antetokounmpo away from Milwaukee:

“Lowry’s name only enters the equation if the Raptors pivot into a gap year and don’t think they need him to help recruit Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021. That’s not an impossible scenario. Three of Toronto’s best players are hitting the open market—Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka and Fred VanVleet—and team president Masai Ujiri might be keener on a wholesale shakeup if Giannis signs a supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks,” Favale says.

Obviously, an All-Star guard like Lowry wouldn’t come easily, not even at age 34. The Lakers would have to part ways with Avery Bradley, Danny Green, Alex Caruso, their 28th overall pick, and a 2020 first-round pick swap in order to get the former NBA Champion:

“The Lakers might consider this asking price too steep. They shouldn’t. Lowry is an ideal fit beside LeBron and Anthony Davis, someone who can stroke spot-up threes and set screens but also pilot the offense on his own. That he comes off the books in 2021 is similarly convenient. LeBron has a player option for 2021-22, and though the Lakers won’t be max-contract-ready without renouncing both, it does open the door for scenarios in which they re-sign for less to facilitate the arrival of someone else,” he concluded.

Giving that much for a 34-year-old player is a major risk and the Lakers know it. Then again, we’re talking about one of the best defensive and three-point shooting point guards in the league, a hardnosed veteran with Championship experience and a great floor general.

Of course, this will all depend on whether the Raptors are ready to part ways with one of the best players in franchise history.
