In a chat with the media after Lakers‘ practice on Tuesday, head coach JJ Redick provided an update on Bronny James. The 55th overall pick has been spending his time in the G-League and Redick recently shared what key advice he gave him to start his rookie season.
“He’s very coachable. I think, and I told him this, he’s got to get to a point where it’s okay to fail,” said Redick, via Dave McMenamin. “I think he has a real reservation fail. And I think a lot of that is because he’s had a camera on him since he was 8 years old. I can’t imagine Knox and Kai having cameras at their rec league games. He’s had attention on him and I’m cognizant of that. And I think once he develops that, he’s gonna take off. He will do anything we ask him to do and he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. It’s just really, a part of player development is not just skills and the physical development, it is the mental development as well.”

It’s been a rough showing for him so far, but the Lakers are in no rush to speed up his development. After signing him to a four-year deal this summer, the Lakers intend to work with Bronny for the foreseeable future and he’ll have a support system in place to help maximize his game.
