NBA Rumors: Warriors Could Sign Dwight Howard In 2020 Offseason

Dwight Howard was all smiles after his team was named Champions of the basketball world. But even as the celebrations continue for Howard and Lakers Nation, there is a sense of uncertainly regarding his future with the team.

As he enters free-agency, the 34-year-old big man is sure to demand more than the 1-year, $2.5 million deal he signed last summer, and the word is that L.A. won’t be the only team in pursuit of his services.

In fact, in a report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Dwight is drawing interest from one of the league’s most lucrative teams.

Dwight Howard, who was a pillar to the frontcourt this season, and the Lakers have mutual interest in a deal. Among the contenders also expected to have interest in Howard, sources say: The Golden State Warriors.

An 8x All-Star, 8x All-NBA player, and 3x Defensive Player of the Year, Dwight was among the best centers in the game during his stint in Orlando. Unfortunately, the next years that followed sent his career into a tailspin that nobody thought he could recover from.

While D12 will never return to his previous All-Star level state, his humility and intensity off the bench this season have helped to make him a valuable member of the Lakers, as evidenced by his appearance in the starting lineup throughout the playoffs.

The Warriors, who have long searched for a consistent, traditional-style big, could use Howard’s abilities to match up against the West’s premier frontcourts.

It will be interesting to see what transpires in the weeks and months to come.
