James Harden Explains The Importance Of Russell Westbrook For The Rockets: “We Just Need Him”

2 Min Read

Yesterday, Russell Westbrook played for the first time in the playoffs, making his return from an injury. He missed the first four games of the Rockets series versus the Oklahoma City Thunder but now he’s back and ready to roll. Even though he didn’t have the best night of all on Saturday, seeing Russ back on the court was great news for the Rockets fans. He only scored seven points, going just 3-of-13 from the field.

James Harden, as usual, carried his team to a blowout 114-80 victory over the Thunder with 31 points in only 28 minutes. He was a machine yesterday. The Beard can’t be happier to have Russ back and he spoke out about it after the game. He knows Brodie is a key piece for the Rockets if they want to win the title and he doesn’t hide his excitement to see Russ back in action.

“Extraordinary, we know what he brings to the table, he brought that energy, he brought that excitement that we were missing and we just need him. Obviously, he is our leader and we all know what he does for the game of basketball, for our team, so it was exciting to have him out there,” said Harden, via James Jackson of The Oklahoman.

The Rockets had an easy day against the Thunder. They are now one win away from reaching the second round of the playoffs, where the Los Angeles Lakers are waiting following their victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.

As things stand now, it looks like we’re about to see a duo duel in between Westbrook and Harden against LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
