It’s been almost seven months since Kobe Bryant left this world and we can’t still get over it. It will take a lot to overcome this loss for the NBA community and every person whose life was touched by Bryant. In the meantime, people are making sure to honor Kobe in every way they can and now he’s received one of the biggest homages possible for any person.

On Tuesday, Orange County supervisors voted to officially declare Aug. 24 as “Kobe Bryant Day”. Kobe lived in this county and they had plenty of reasons to pick this day as Kobe’s one. August 24 was chosen because Bryant was born Aug. 23, 1978, and he also wore the numbers 8 and 24 during his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won 5 NBA championships, among other accolades.

Orange County Board chairwoman Michelle Steel suggested this day as Kobe Bryant day, stating that Kobe was a “treasured member of our community,” and “inspired so many men and women to pursue their dreams and never give up.” Wherever he went, this man left a mark and that’s something that will be never be erased. According to the Orange County Register, Steel is a lifelong Lakers fan so this day means much more to her than we think.

Kobe was killed in a helicopter crash the past January 26, when he was on the way to a youth basketball tournament. He died with his daughter Gianna and seven other people in one of the most tragic days for the world of sports. Next Aug. 23 he would have turned 42 and what better way to celebrate Kobe than this?

He left this world way too soon and we have to remember him with all the lessons he taught us and that mentality of never giving up until you reach your goals.
