Paul George recently opened up about the fallout in his relationship with Chris Paul during an episode of his podcast, Podcast P with Paul George. George candidly revealed how a once-strong friendship deteriorated after a heated exchange on the court, marking a turning point for both players.

“I’m not the fondest of CP these days, but that’s kind of where I fall off came about. You know what I mean? Because people don’t know this. Me and CP used to have a great relationship.”

“He was the reason I got LSAIK. Had a conversation with him, he recommended a eye doctor for me, I went to go see the eye doctor and I got LASIK and my eyes have been terrific.”

“But it was our relationship was up to that level where I could give him a call like ‘hey, like, you know, my shit is f***ed up.’ Now fast forward we get into I think it was a playoff matchup against Phoenix, or it was a regular season game, can’t remember which one it was, but we get into it.”

“Words was thrown out there that should’t be thrown out there between two men. That kind of just drew the line for me. And I’m one of those, once you’re on one side, bro, you staying there. So absolutely, I get where that competitive nature comes from.”

“I don’t know if it’s that little man syndrome, but he definitely got that competitive nature.”

“I’m the type, like, if you are OG to me, like, I’m going to respect that 100%. You know what I mean? I ain’t going to never go against. You’ll never hear me disrespectful.”

“You’ll never hear me call you out your name. Like, if I respect you as an OG, like, you got it 100%. I’ve blessed you with that OG. But you know, if you give me some type of way, I can’t respect that.”

The animosity likely stems from their fierce competition, notably the 2021 Western Conference Finals where George’s Clippers faced Paul’s Phoenix Suns. Tensions ran high during the series, and both players were seen exchanging words on multiple occasions.

This isn’t the first time Chris Paul’s on-court competitiveness has drawn attention. Known for his trash-talking and aggressive play, Paul has often been at the center of similar disputes with other players.

Despite their personal differences, George and Paul are both highly respected in the NBA. George, now with the Philadelphia 76ers, continues to be a two-way force, while Paul, in his first season with the San Antonio Spurs, recently became the second-highest assist provider in NBA history.

While fans might hope for reconciliation, George’s comments suggest the relationship is unlikely to mend soon. The divide underscores how competitive rivalries can spill beyond the court, leaving lasting impacts on personal relationships, even among some of the game’s greatest players.
