Dwyane Wade Says Giannis Is The MVP, Not LeBron James: “Overall, Giannis Has Been The MVP All Season.”

Dwyane Wade has given his two pennies on the 2020 NBA MVP debate. It’s unclear if it’s necessary to call it a debate since Giannis Antetokounmpo seems to be a lock to win the award for the second consecutive season. The Milwaukee Bucks forward has had a terrific season, breaking records with his team while playing only 17 minutes per game.

However, people have tried to make the case for LeBron James as a legitimate candidate to steal the trophy from Giannis but that’s highly unlikely to happen. The NBA announced the 2020 NBA award winners will be based on the performances from October through March. That said, Giannis doesn’t seem to have a lot of competition and former LeBron’s teammate and best friend Dwyane Wade thinks the same.

“For me, Giannis came back this season as MVP. He didn’t do anything to lose that. I felt that LeBron was catching him, LeBron was really picking up steam before the season ended and I felt that last 20 games were going to really determine who was gonna be the MVP. We did not have that, Giannis did not lose the MVP, I felt like he’s been the frontrunner but LeBron is the best player in the game right now… But overall, Giannis has been the MVP all season I think he’ll probably win back-to-back,” Wade said on NBA on TNT.

It did look like the last 20 games of the season were going to decide the winner of the coveted prize. LeBron and his Lakers were doing just fine right before the shutdown, beating the Bucks and the Clippers in consecutive games, becoming the best team in the league in the eyes of many.

Bron was inspired, he was ready to confirm he’s still the King and that crown will be with him for a long time. However, things fell apart when Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 and the league suspended the campaign. Now, whatever LeBron does at the bubble won’t affect the MVP vote, so, just like Wade and plenty of people around the league believe, Giannis is the rightful MVP.
