Paul Pierce Says Miami Heat “Big Three” Underachieved: ‘If It Wasn’t For Ray Allen, They Would’ve Had One Ring’

With two NBA Championships in four straight trips to the Finals, most folk in the NBA community would be hesitant to call LeBron’s time with the Heat as anything other than a success.

But what about underwhelming? According to former league star Paul Pierce, LeBron and the Heat actually underachieved in their four-year run as the NBA’s premier superteam.

It is true that the Heat got saved by Ray Allen against the Spurs in 2013. The Heat were down 3-2 before Allen nailed that shot — and then they were finally able to get past San Antonio in Game 7. Had Ray missed it, the Heta might’ve only walked away with a single title win.

For a team that’s got three NBA Hall-of-Famers, one could say a 1-3 record isn’t quite up to par with expectations.

Then again, how many teams today are able to win back-to-back titles? It’s harder than it looks, and not even Pierce himself has won that many.

For context, all of this seems to be Pierce’s way of downgrading LeBron’s status among the All-Time greats. His opinion that James isn’t a top 5 NBA player is one that is making significant waves throughout the NBA.

No matter your opinion on James or his titles, winning another in L.A. will certainly help his case.
