NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Could Target Bradley Beal And CJ McCollum Next Season

The Dallas Mavericks have put together quite a strong core for their team, with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis as their cornerstones for the future as two of the most promising young players in the league.

However, that doesn’t mean Rick Carlisle’s satisfied yet and several reports claim they will be quite aggressive in the offseason to get a third star for their team, either via trade or in free agency.

And, according to Michael Shapiro of Sports Illustrated. they’re interested in upgrading the shooting guard position with one of the two most underrated players in the league: Bradley Beal or CJ McCollum:

“The Mavericks could try to build their own superteam in the summer of 2021 when several NBA superstars are expected to be available on the market. However, instead of going after big names in the 2021 NBA free agency, the Mavericks could search for a superstar that complements Doncic and Porzingis on the trade market. Shapiro specifically mentioned CJ McCollum of the Portland Trail Blazers and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards as potential trade targets for the Mavericks in the 2021 NBA offseason,” the report said.

Let’s consider that there have often been a lot of doubts regarding McCollum’s fit next to Damian Lillard and whether the Portland Trail Blazers can compete at the highest level with that starting backcourt, so CJ’s name has always loomed around as a potential trade target for many teams.

As for Beal, moving his giant deal could be a bit of a problem for the Mavericks but there’s no doubt that he’s the kind of offensive juggernaut any championship contender would die to get next offseason.

Moreover, they’re both used to play off the ball so they wouldn’t have to take the basketball away from Luka Doncic’s hand, which could be a concern in case they pursue more ball-dominant players.
