The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the best teams this year backed behind historic play from Luka Doncic. The Mavericks currently sit as the 5th seed in the Western Conference and are well on their way to their first playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season.

Contents
  • Andre Drummond
  • Montrezl Harrell
  • Kevin Love
  • LaMarcus Aldridge
  • Steven Adams

Despite their historic play, things just got a lot more difficult for them as their starting center Dwight Powell, suffered a non-contact Achilles injury and will be sidelined for the rest of the season. This injury know has the Mavericks scrambling for a replacement and in this article, we look at five big men who the Mavs could trade for.

Andre Drummond

It is no secret that the Detroit Pistons are looking to move on from Andre Drummond and the Mavericks should be looking to acquiring him. Drummond has been a staple of the Pistons franchise since he was drafted but, with no real success since he has been drafted, it is time to clean shop and Drummond would be the first of many players on the Pistons that will be moved.

A potential trade would be Andre Drummond for Courtney Lee, Justin Jackson, and multiple 2nd round picks. Drummond and Porzingis would form a formidable frontcourt with their length and this move gives the Mavs another scoring option and would improve an already great offense.

Justin Jackson could turn into a nice 3-D player for the Pistons and those 2nd round picks could get the Pistons an impactful player or used in a trade to acquire more assets.

Montrezl Harrell

Harrell has been amazing for the Clippers this season but, he will demand a big market this season and the Clips could look to move him because of this. The Clippers have needed a point guard for the entire season, and they could get one with this trade.

A potential trade would be Montrezl Harrell for Jalen Brunson, Justin Jackson, and multiple 2nd round picks. Harrell would add a scoring punch for the Mavs at the center position and his 6’8’ frame would be hidden on defense by Porzingis’s size.

This trade would be a risky one for the Clippers, but Brunson would be the ideal point guard to add and is on his rookie contract for another two years. The combination of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George should be able to combat the loss of Harrell’s offense and they could then look to other teams with the hope of acquiring a center with size, such as John Henson or Dewayne Dedmon.

Kevin Love

Love has been in the headlines recently for showing frustrations towards management and players and it seems as If his time as a Cavalier will be coming to an end soon. A potential trade would be Courtney Lee, Delon Wright and Isaiah Roby for Kevin Love. Acquiring Love would mean that Porzingis would have to play the Center position and with his 7’3’ frame, this should be no problem. Love adds a floor spacer, rebounder, and scorer to the offense and would improve an already elite offense.

This trade allows the Cavaliers to get off of Love’s enormous contract and gives them a young player in Isaiah Roby who could turn into an impactful player for them. Wright is someone who doesn’t play many minutes for the Mavs in their crowded backcourt and the Cavs could just look to move him for even more assets.

LaMarcus Aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge

With Aldridge nearing the end of his career, the Spurs would be smart to try and move him for assets. A potential trade would be Courtney Lee, Delon Wright, and Isaiah Roby for LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge’s role on this team would be similar to Love’s as he would be a floor spacer and another option on the offense.

Isaiah Roby could turn into a nice rotational piece while learning under Popovich and this trade allows the Spurs to get out of L.A.’s contract a year earlier.

Steven Adams

Adams would be an ideal fit for this Mavs team but, with the Thunder looking to make the playoffs, it would take a lot to acquire him. A potential trade would be Steven Adams and Lugentz Dort for Courtney Lee, Boban Marjanovic, Justin Jackson, and Jalen Brunson.

An Adams-Porzingis frontcourt would be elite defensively and Adams would an amazing lob partner for Luka Doncic. The Thunder have been playing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the shooting guard position and if this is the route they want to take, Brunson would be an ideal fit as the point guard of the future.
