The New York Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the NBA for over a decade, having one of the biggest fan bases and payrolls in the world but never being able to actually become a contending side.
Phil Jackson’s triangle offense experiment failed miserably, and even though spent most of the time without Phil in the front office, he also failed to provide any kind of identity and hope for fans during his one season stint.
Naturally, New York fired coach Hornacek after yet another season near the bottom of the standings, so the main seat is once again up for grabs. The Knicks being one of the world’s biggest markets, there’s been a lot of speculation surrounding who may their next coach be.
Today, we’re going to let you know about the top 5 candidates to be the Knicks coach:
5. David Blatt

David Blatt is one of the most successful coaches overseas, but his lack of consent with LeBron James made the Cleveland Cavaliers disrespect him big time and part ways with him despite their great record.
Blatt is one of the best available coaches in the world right now but he needs something New York isn’t willing to give anybody: Patience. Still, it would be great to watch him coach again in the NBA.
4. Ettore Messina

Ettore Messina has been around for quite a long time and he’s always among the league’s leading candidates to land one of the available head coaches, so this year might as well be the one when he finally gets the opportunity to prove his worth.
The San Antonio Spurs have granted Messina permission to schedule a meeting with the Knicks, but it’s highly unlikely that they trust a foreign man with the main seat available in the team.
3. David Fizdale

David Fizdale was so mistreated by the Memphis Grizzlies this prior campaign, being the team’s scapegoat for their struggles despite the fact that he didn’t have any talent on his roster other than Marc Gasol and Mike Conley Jr.
Fizdale is one of the league’s emerging great basketball minds and he’s one hell of a coach, so we wouldn’t expect a self-destructing team like the New York Knicks to actually make a push to land him.
2. Mark Jackson

Mark Jackson deserves a lot of credit for these Golden State Warriors, being the first guy that tried to put together their core, being a great mentor and motivator but struggling to close out games when it mattered the most.
After a couple of years as a member of ESPN’S broadcasting squad, Jackson’s reportedly once again looking for a coaching gig and there’s a huge campaign supporting him to take the job, so we’ll have to wait and see.

1. Jerry Stackhouse

Stackhouse has been quite successful as an NBA G League head coach, leading the way Raptors affiliate after a brief stint as one of Dwane Casey’s assistants, and he’s been closely tied with the Knicks coaching job for weeks now.
The 2 time All-Star has a fame for developing young talents and Toronto’s bench has been extremely prolific all season long, so it would be extremely interesting to see if he can find a way to thrive and get the most out of the Knicks’ young core.
