The Golden State Warriors have had a difficult offseason, as they have yet to agree on a deal with Jonathan Kuminga. The two sides are still in a standoff, and Warriors star Draymond Green was asked about his thoughts on the current situation on Threads.
“Negotiations are rarely easy, but they usually get done in the end.”
Green seems confident that Kuminga and the Warriors will agree on a new deal at some stage. That will require the two sides to agree on one critical point.
The Warriors most recently offered Kuminga a three-year, $75.2 million deal, with the final year being a team option. They were guaranteeing him $48.3 million over the first two years and wanted him to waive the inherent no-trade clause.
This offer was rejected in part because Kuminga does not want to sign a deal with a team option. The Warriors had previously put a two-year, $45 million contract on the table, which also had that team option for the final year. Kuminga and his camp didn’t want that option then, and they don’t want it now.
It looks like the Warriors will have to give up some control if they are to secure Kuminga’s services beyond next season. If no deal is struck, the 22-year-old will accept the $7.9 qualifying offer for 2025-26 and become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
Losing Kuminga, who averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2024-25, for nothing certainly wouldn’t be ideal.
This Kuminga saga dragging on for so long has also led to the Warriors being the only team that hasn’t made a move this offseason. The veterans like Green aren’t panicking, though, as they know that once this situation is resolved, the team will be making some additions.
Draymond Green Responds To Stephen Jackson’s Comments
While Green isn’t losing much sleep over the Kuminga situation, he was annoyed when he saw former Warrior Stephen Jackson’s recent comments.
Jackson claimed it isn’t possible to be a successful podcaster and player at the same time. When Green’s name was brought up in response, Jackson stated he plays a super-limited role for the Warriors. You knew the four-time All-Star was going to clap back at some point, and he did on Threads.

Green averaged 9.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in 2024-25. He isn’t the go-to guy for the Warriors, which is what Jackson was talking about, but his role isn’t super limited by any means.
Green is the defensive anchor for the Warriors and made the All-Defensive First Team in 2025. They went 6-8 in the 14 games that the 35-year-old missed last season and are just not the same team without him.
It was rather disrespectful on Jackson’s part to dismiss Green in that manner. For once, you can’t be too critical of the Warriors forward for mocking someone.
