The Los Angeles Lakers won their first season opener since 2016 tonight with a 110-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. History was made in the game as LeBron James and his son Bronny became the first father-son duo to share an NBA court. They spoke about that experience after the win to Taylor Rooks on TNT, with Bronny discussing the most memorable moment from the experience.
Bronny James: “Just going up to that scorer’s table, checking in my with my Dad, it’s a moment I’ll never forget… I am extremely grateful for everything. I was given an amazing opportunity to come into this league, learn every day, and get better every day. I’m just extremely grateful…”
LeBron James: “Family over everything. For me, I lost a lot of time because of this league and committing to it, being on the road a lot. Missing a lot of his (Bronny) things, Bryce’s things, and Zhuri’s things. To be able to have this moment where I’m working still and I get to work alongside my son, it’s one of the greatest gifts I have ever gotten from the man above, and I will take full advantage of it.”
Rooks also asked LeBron about the clip of him giving advice to Bronny before they checked in, with LeBron hammering home the uniqueness of the opportunity that Bronny has received.
“This is not promised every day, that you get an opportunity to play in this beautiful league. There are only 450 of us and understand that it’s not given to you, you’ve got to earn every moment. I think he knows that and he’s looking forward to the progress and process of getting better every single day to be the player he ultimately wants to be. I am super proud of him and he’s my lifeline for sure.”

LeBron and Bronny added more thoughts to the history-making moment while speaking to the media after the game, as shared by Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, is something I will never forget. No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”
“I was a little anxious going into it,” said Bronny. “That first game stepping on the court, it’s a little nerve-wracking. But once we got on the court, we got up and down a couple of times, it all went away and I felt pretty good.”
LeBron put up 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists in a game where he made more history by overtaking Kobe Bryant for the most missed shots in NBA history. Bronny played just 2 minutes and 31 seconds in the second quarter, grabbing one rebound while going 0-2 from the field.
It’s unclear if the pair will play more games together during this season, with Bronny still considered a raw prospect who might need to spend the season developing in the G League.
There could be garbage time moments when Bronny gets a lot of burn from the coaching staff, but sharing a court with his father isn’t necessarily guaranteed to happen again this season.
