Luka Doncic has had an explosive start to his career, making five All-NBA First Teams in just six seasons in the NBA. The 2023-24 scoring leader’s production has been unmatched in recent seasons, with Doncic on pace to be one of the greatest statistical performers in NBA history. Patrick Beverley opened up on former Playoff rival Doncic on the ‘Pat Bev Pod,’ saying the Slovenian will break many NBA records.

“He’s 6’7″-6’8″, so you can’t put the classic point guard on him because he’s too small. Can’t keep the classic two-guard on him because he’s too small. Can’t put the three on him because then you have to switch the 3-5 pick-and-roll, now he’s just attacking your five.”

“He’s gonna break a lot of records. Obviously, given health and longevity, at the pave he’s going, he’s going to break a lot of records Romeski.”

Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 0.5 blocks last season, one of the greatest seasons in terms of all-around statistical production in NBA history.

His career average after six seasons is 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks, with his points per game mark ranking amongst the top five in NBA history.

His ability to produce big numbers and help his team win can’t be questioned after he led the Dallas Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals. When it comes to his career’s success, it will be defined by if he can bring another ring to Dallas and how long he plays to make a major impact on the all-time records set by players like LeBron James.

Luka Doncic Is The Only Active Player Who Can Challenge LeBron James’ All-Time Scoring Record

Doncic’s incredible production through the first six seasons of his career has led to many claiming Luka is one of few players in the NBA right now who can even think about trying to go after LeBron James’ all-time scoring record, which crossed the 40,000-mark last season.

Kevin Garnett propped Doncic up as the only player who could catch LeBron, despite his off-court habits.

“Listen, Luka is set up to be the only n***a to catch Bron. Nobody wanna say that shit. Listen, Luka is averaging 30, what do you average this year, 33? On one leg, drinking beer, having fun, doing God knows what else.”

Unfortunately, LeBron’s closest challenger doesn’t seem to want the responsibility, with Doncic making it clear that he will not be playing for over 20 seasons like LeBron has, especially not at the level of production James has maintained.

“No way in hell… It’s always a possibility, but it’s going to be really tough. You gotta have a guy that plays for 20 yearrs in that shape, how he holds up his body. I am just saying without basketball skills, it’s very hard to hold that body. If you’re saying me there’s no way because I’m not playing that much. It’s amazing to watch him. It’s his 20th season and he’s scoring 30-40 points every night.”

LeBron will tie Vince Carter’s record for the most consecutive seasons played in NBA history with 22 last season while still expecting to be a featured option on a contending squad. Doncic is phenomenal, but the longevity required to challenge LeBron’s records is a much harder task than having the talent to keep pace with him through the first 10 years of a career.
