Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has been spending a lot of time playing golf this offseason, and he’s getting hooked. James posted a story on Instagram on Saturday in which he admitted he cannot stop playing the sport at the moment.

“Addicted, I’m sorry,” James said. “I know, yeah, that’s it. Rain and everything.”

We have seen many NBA players turn to golf towards the end of their careers, and James appears to be the latest example. The 40-year-old was trolled for his golf swing when he first started sharing clips, with Stephen Curry even hilariously impersonating him.

Curry was asked about the viral moment and admitted to doing some light-hearted rookie hazing.

“Rookie hazing,” Curry said. “He got his first few swings out there. I talked to him last week and he told me how much fun he had. You know, there’s something to work with that swing, though. That’s kind of what I was going for. He’s got good bones and a good foundation, and if he spends a little bit of time practicing, a little bit of coaching, he’s got potential for sure. So, I’m excited to see it.”

James’ swing does appear to have gotten a little bit better now, as evidenced by a clip he shared recently.

It’s still not a great swing, but it was always going to take time for James to get the hang of it. With how often he is playing golf, we might see significant improvement by the end of the offseason. No matter how much James plays and trains, though, he is unlikely ever to get as good at it as Curry, who won the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in 2023.

While it’s great to see James find joy in another sport, his fans fear this is the beginning of the end of his NBA career. The 21-time All-Star will be entering his 23rd season in 2025-26, and he won’t be sticking around for too much longer.

James remains a force on the court, though, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game for the Lakers in 2024-25. There is gas left in the tank and and an executive told the Dallas Hoops Journal that three teams will be interested in him if he becomes a free agent in 2026.

“Cleveland, Dallas, and Golden State, those are the three teams I’m looking at,” the executive said. “All three would have loved to trade for him this offseason, but he never requested a trade and he makes way too much money. Once he’s on the open market, those three will court him. I have no doubt in my mind.”

It speaks to James’ greatness that this doesn’t sound like an outlandish statement. Provided he stays relatively healthy, you reckon he can play at a fairly high level for a couple more seasons.

For now, though, James isn’t thinking too far into the future. He’s having a bit of fun this offseason and recently engaged in a Pilates workout with his wife, Savannah.
