Charles Barkley spoke to Paul George on his ‘Podcast P’ show recently. He told George that despite the level of international competition is the highest it has ever been, Team USA still has the deepest squad in the competition and they should not be settling for anything less than the gold, and shouldn’t be allowed back into the country if they don’t win the gold medal.

“Have the international teams gotten better? 110%. They’re not better than the United States. You take away Joker, and Giannis, and Luka. All three guys are great, great players. Shai is great also. We still got the next 10 best players in every game. Ain’t nobody bringing anybody off the bench better than Jayson Tatum.”

“Ain’t nobody bringing anybody off the bench better than Kevin Durant. The international teams have gotten better, but there’s never an excuse for the United States not to win the gold medal. We got the best team, we got the best players by far… Listen, if they lose we can’t let them back in the country.”

“If you take away [Jokic], and Giannis, and Luka… Shai is great also. We still got the next 10 best players in every game… If we lose we can’t let them back in the country.”

Charles Barkley makes a very valid point about the quality that Team USA has. While the level of international competition is better than we have ever seen, Team USA has perhaps the most stacked roster in the competition, with elite players at every position, and depth that other teams cannot compete with him.

Team USA has dominated the competition so far, going undefeated in both their showcase games in the lead-up to the Olympics and their group stage games in the Olympics as well. Led by veteran stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry, and supplemented by superstars coming off the bench like Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards, Team USA has been firing on all cylinders.

Team USA Ready To Begin Their Gold Rush

With Team USA now in the quarter-finals of the tournament, they are ready to begin the final push for the gold medal. They face Brazil tomorrow in the quarter-final to book their trip to the semi-finals. If they win tomorrow, they will face either Serbia or Australia in the semi-finals.

Brazil is a bit of a wild card for Team USA. They are one of the few teams that Team USA hasn’t played yet, whether that be in the showcase games or in their group stage games. But with the talent and depth they have, Team USA will still be considered the favorite to win against them.

Team USA will hope that Joel Embiid improves his firm. He has struggled since the Olympics started and has only one game where had double-digit points. After his slightly improved performance against Puerto Rico, the team will believe they have finally unlocked Embiid, who will now play at his standard MVP level.

LeBron James showed support for Joel Embiid recently after Embiid was heckled relentlessly by the French fans in attendance. He claimed that the entire team has his back, and will support him no matter what.

With the depth, camaraderie, and chemistry that Team USA has, they will have to deliver some great performances to win their fifth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics.
