Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison is very happy with his work on the Klay Thompson deal. Speaking during the Mavericks’ Summer League game against the Jazz, Harrison gushed about the signing of Klay Thompson, noting that it was a no-brainer deal for them and that they needed to make the signing to take themselves to the next level.

“I mean it was a no-brainer for us, especially after the Finals. We knew we were a  Klay Thompson away, we felt.”

Klay Thompson signed for the Mavs as part of a sign-and-trade involving six NBA teams, the first of its kind. He joins the Mavs on a three-year, $50 million contract. His pairing alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic undoubtedly makes the Mavericks one of the favorites in the Western Conference.

Thompson had a solid season last year, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. While he is no longer the player he once was during the peak years of the Warriors dynasty, he can still be one of the elite three-point shooters in the league, something the Mavericks desperately need.

Thompson will also be hoping to prove his detractors wrong this year, as he looks to show the Warriors that they were wrong for not paying him what he felt he deserved. With a motivated Klay Thompson on their roster, along with a squad upset about losing in the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks could be quite a dangerous team in the West next year.

Klay Thompson Energized By Mavericks Move

Speaking at his introductory press conference with the Dallas Mavericks, Klay Thompson noted how excited he was to get on the court with the team next season. While he was appreciative of his time in Golden State, he felt motivated by the prospect of starting fresh with the Mavericks next season.

“I’m very grateful for my time at Golden State, but I just felt like you know moving on could just re-energize me and do something special for the rest of my career and Dallas was so attractive because of the young players they have, the style of play, the you know world-class treatment these players get from this organization and just a beautiful city who loves their hoops.”

“So when I was watching the playoffs and I’m watching the Mavs, you know make a run for the championship I just saw myself fitting in really well with this team and the personnel and they look like they have fun playing with each other. They play for each other and that was very attractive for me and that’s really all I needed to see and there’s mutual interest there.”

Thompson and Golden State had a very messy divorce, as the player felt disrespected by the Warriors for not being paid what he felt he deserved. He even asked Stephen Curry to not intervene in the negotiation process as he wanted to see how the franchise would treat him without any pressure.

Curry unsurprisingly, ignored Thompson’s request. But his pressure on the front office didn’t make a difference, as they refused to pay Thompson what he wanted. Now, Klay looks to find championship success along with new teammates.
